On April 2, 2026, more than twenty students from the Learning Center, STAP, and Summit High School packed onto a bus bound for Marlborough, MA, ready to explore something bigger than a classroom. They were possibly also happy to get out of class for a morning, but we’ll call it career readiness. At the 4th Annual Trade and Construction Expo, they joined nearly 500 peers from across Massachusetts for a morning of hands-on career exploration spanning construction and heavy equipment, electrical and energy, automotive and transportation, manufacturing, and more. From trying out a heavy equipment simulator to talking apprenticeships with electricians and learning about training pathways from community college representatives, our students showed up curious, engaged, and ready to discover what their futures might hold.
Hands-On Learning and Professional Connections
What made the morning so impressive wasn’t just what students saw; it was how they engaged. They introduced themselves to industry professionals, asked about apprenticeships and certifications, and got firsthand looks at the tools and technology shaping today’s skilled trades. Watching them step up, speak up, and genuinely engage with people working in these fields was something special. No prompting required.
Empowering the Next Generation
At Bi-County Collaborative, preparing students for life after graduation means more than academics. It means creating real opportunities for them to step into the world, build connections, and discover what they are capable of. That is exactly what showed up on April 2nd. Our students didn’t just attend the Expo; they made the most of every opportunity, and it showed.
A Day to Remember
After a full morning of exploration, the group gathered for lunch to swap stories and share what had caught their eye. The energy carried right through to the end of the day, when one of our own students walked away with a raffle prize earned through engagement with vendors. We will not say who, but they know who they are, and they absolutely deserve it.
Honestly, a perfect ending to a great day.
We are grateful to Metro Southwest Youth Connections and to every industry partner who gave their time to make this day possible. This is what it looks like when students get real opportunities, and we could not be prouder of how ours showed up. We look forward to building on this momentum with even more real-world experiences for our students.
