Earning participants the full Sheltered English
Immersion (SEI) Endorsement, this course
prepares teachers with the knowledge and
skills to help our growing population of English
Learners (ELs) access curriculum, achieve
academic success, and contribute their
multilingual and multicultural resources as
future leaders. Nicholas Bettencourt has been
an educator and English Language Learner
advocate for over 20 years as an ESL High
School Teacher in Chicago and Providence,
as well as an administrator and department

This asynchronous, online course fulfills the
requirement that all educators must have 15
PDPs related to English as a Second
Language for recertification. Course
topics include top-down web and two-column
notes skills and application, Sheltered English
Immersion (SEI) strategies, and review of
lesson examples aligned with Massachusetts
Curriculum Frameworks. Instructor Alicia
Serafin currently teaches English as a Second
Language and is certified as an Elementary
Classroom Teacher as well as an ESL
Supervisor/Director.
