Lights, Camera, TEP

Recently, students from TEP took a field trip straight into the world of television production with a visit to Foxboro Cable Access. The kind of place where buttons matter, cameras have opinions, and everything looks cooler under studio lights.

From the moment we walked into the operations center, Executive Director Michael Webber rolled out the red carpet and gave students an inside look at how a real TV studio runs. And by inside look, we mean everything. Master control. Studio equipment. Cameras. Sets. Green screens. The whole behind-the-scenes experience that usually only happens after the words “stay tuned.”

Michael walked students through how shows are produced from start to finish, explaining what each piece of equipment does and why timing, teamwork, and attention to detail are everything in broadcasting. The students asked great questions and soaked it all in like seasoned pros who just happened to be on their first studio tour.

Students were invited to operate camera controls, adjust angles, and even set themselves up on the studio set. The experience gave students a real sense of what careers in media, broadcasting, and production entail while also building confidence, teamwork, and communication skills. Plus, let’s be honest, everyone looks a little cooler sitting behind a camera.

A huge thank you to Michael Webber and the team at Foxboro Cable Access for their generosity, enthusiasm, and willingness to let students truly experience the studio environment. Visits like this turn curiosity into possibility and maybe even spark a future career or two.

If you ever wondered how the magic of local television happens, now you know. And if you ever need a camera operator, TEP students are ready.
