Invaluable early literacy tutoring will return this school year at the BICO after the collaborative was awarded a crucial state grant to continue the program.
The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education recently announced that BICO will receive no-cost, high-impact early literacy tutoring during the 2026-27 school year as part of the agency’s Early Literacy Tutoring Initiative. This is BICO’s second year participating in the grant-funded tutoring program.
BICO is partnering with state-approved literacy tutoring provider Ignite Reading to offer one-on-one tutoring sessions virtually during the school day. Eligible students will receive tutoring five times per week, for a total of 75 minutes per week, over the course of 32 weeks.
We are extremely grateful for this incredible opportunity to continue providing our students with high-impact, evidence-based literacy tutoring that is designed to accelerate reading growth. Ensuring that students develop foundational reading skills is a top priority. Thank you to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and the Healey-Driscoll administration for continuing to support this critical effort here at BICO.
