Communication: Keys to Success in Special Education

This course fulfills the 15 PDP requirement in Special Education

Instructors: Marla Colarusso, M.Ed. and Marlene Dodyk Ph.D.

This course is designed to assist general education and special education staff in understanding the importance of effective communication between and among professionals and developing effective strategies to facilitate this essential component in the educational process.  Learn about roles and methods to coordinate and manage staff, specifically as it relates to the IEP Process and the roles various professionals play within it.  Develop effective listening techniques to use with staff, parents and students, thus strengthening engagement of team members, most particularly with parents so that they experience being integral members of the team.  Strengthen your understanding and communication skill set to meet the needs of students with social/emotional and mental health needs.

This blended learning course has two, 3 hour face to face sessions. 

Online assignments will be completed in between the below meeting dates, with a final product due on April 27, 2022.
